Calm Waters Independent Living

Mental Health Awareness & Community Wellness Program

Real People. Real Support. Stronger Communities.

At Calm Waters, we believe mental health awareness, emotional well-being, and independent living work together to create healthier, more stable lives.

Our Vision

Creating Communities Where Mental Health Matters

At Calm Waters Independent Living, our vision is to create a community where mental health awareness, emotional well-being, dignity, and independent living work together to support healthier, more stable lives. We believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, understood, and connected to resources that can help them navigate life’s challenges.

We envision a future where conversations about mental health are welcomed without judgment, individuals feel comfortable seeking assistance, and emotional wellness is recognized as an important part of overall quality of life. Through education, community engagement, resource connections, and supportive environments, we aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage a culture of compassion, understanding, and personal empowerment.

Our Mission

The mission of the Calm Waters Mental Health Awareness & Community Wellness Program is to increase mental health literacy, promote emotional wellness, reduce stigma, and connect individuals and families with appropriate community-based mental health resources.

Our program will emphasize prevention, awareness, early recognition of emotional distress, and access to qualified professionals when additional assistance is needed.

Our Program Goals

Goal 1

Promote Mental Health Awareness

Provide accessible educational information about depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, emotional exhaustion, and other common mental health challenges. Help individuals recognize when additional support may be beneficial and understand how to seek assistance.

Goal 2

Break the Stigma Surrounding Mental Health

Encourage respectful conversations about mental health through awareness campaigns, educational materials, community discussions, and personal stories shared voluntarily. Promote the understanding that mental health challenges should never diminish a person’s dignity or value.

Goal 3

Connect Individuals With Professional Resources

Develop and maintain a directory of community mental health organizations, crisis services, counseling providers, peer-support programs, support groups, and other appropriate resources throughout Detroit, Wayne County, and Michigan.

Goal 4

Encourage Healthy Independent Living

Promote everyday wellness practices that support emotional well-being, including healthy routines, adequate rest, physical activity, social connection, conflict resolution, personal boundaries, and stress management.

Goal 5

Support Families and Community Relationships

Provide educational resources for families, caregivers, and community members seeking to better understand mental health challenges and support loved ones while respecting their independence, privacy, and personal choices.

Goal 6

Build Community Partnerships

Establish relationships with qualified mental health organizations, behavioral health professionals, nonprofit organizations, hospitals, community agencies, and advocacy groups to improve access to reliable information and appropriate services.

Goal 7

Promote Mental Health Awareness Within Housing Communities

Encourage respectful shared-living environments where residents understand the importance of personal boundaries, privacy, communication, conflict prevention, and mutual respect. Help residents identify outside resources when emotional or mental health concerns arise.

Our Commitment to Safe and Responsible Support

Calm Waters Independent Living is a nonmedical independent/shared-housing and housing-navigation organization. Our Mental Health Awareness & Community Wellness Program is intended to provide education, awareness, community connections, and resource navigation.

The program does not provide psychiatric treatment, mental health diagnoses, psychotherapy, medication management, clinical assessments, or emergency crisis intervention.

Individuals requiring professional mental health services will be encouraged to contact appropriately qualified providers. Participation in educational wellness activities will be voluntary, and personal health information will be treated with respect for privacy and confidentiality.

Mental health diagnoses, disability status, or decisions to seek counseling will not be used as substitutes for individualized housing decisions or lawful accommodation review.

Our Long-Term Vision

Our long-term vision is to establish Calm Waters as a trusted community resource where housing stability and mental health awareness complement one another.

We aspire to build meaningful relationships with mental health advocates, service providers, community organizations, and housing professionals to help individuals access the information and support they need.

As the program develops, we envision expanding educational outreach, increasing community partnerships, creating accessible digital resources, and supporting initiatives that encourage mental health awareness throughout Michigan.

Our Guiding Belief

A peaceful home is more than a place to live. It is an environment where dignity is respected, understanding is encouraged, and people have the opportunity to build stability in their lives.

At Calm Waters, we believe mental health awareness should be accessible, compassionate, inclusive, and rooted in the understanding that everyone deserves respect, connection, and the opportunity to thrive.

Calm Waters Independent Living

Comfort. Stability. Support.

Mental Health Matters. Every Mind Deserves Understanding.
