When a case manager is helping someone look for housing, the useful question is whether independent shared housing may be worth exploring - not whether the case manager can pre-approve or disqualify the person.
Start With the Person's Housing Needs, Not a Diagnosis
A diagnosis, disability, age, benefit status, or other label should not be converted into an automatic housing decision. Ask what the person actually needs from the housing environment.
What Independent Housing Means Here
Calm Waters provides nonmedical independent shared housing. It does not provide continuous personal care, medication administration, skilled nursing, medical monitoring, clinical treatment, detoxification, or continuous supervision.
Outside Supports Can Coexist With Independent Housing
A person may receive appropriate outside support while living independently. The key question is whether Calm Waters itself would be expected to provide services outside its housing model.
Shared-House Preferences Matter
The prospective resident should understand the shared-home environment, room arrangement, common spaces, and household expectations and should have a meaningful opportunity to decide whether the setting works for them.
Accessibility Requires Individualized Review
Communicate the person's stated housing-related accessibility needs, but do not pre-screen them out or make the accommodation decision.
Consider the Actual Property
A particular property's entries, stairs, shared spaces, or other features may matter. A property-specific issue is not the same as declaring the person incapable of independent living.
Payment Readiness Is Part of the Process
A budget or expected payment source can be included in the referral, but third-party funding should not be treated as confirmed until it actually is.
About Calm Waters Housing
Calm Waters-specific eligibility is not a statewide rule for all housing. Outside providers retain their own lawful requirements and decisions.
Submit a Housing Referral
Submit a Calm Waters Housing Referral when independent shared housing appears worth exploring. The referral begins individualized review; it does not establish eligibility or placement.
