A shared-housing intake conversation is easier when you know what information matters. The goal is to understand the housing request, not to turn the conversation into a medical or clinical intake.
What the Intake Conversation Is For
The intake helps clarify the housing request: where the person wants to live, when they want to move, room preference, budget or expected payment source, reliable contact information, current housing situation, and relevant housing-related accessibility needs.
Know Your Target Move-In Date
A target date helps staff understand urgency and timing, but it is not a confirmed move-in date.
Know Your Location and Room Preferences
Be ready to explain the preferred city or area and whether a shared room, private room, or either arrangement is acceptable.
Know What You Can Realistically Pay
Share the realistic budget or expected payment source. If third-party assistance is expected but not confirmed, say so accurately.
Be Ready to Discuss Housing-Related Needs
Describe accessibility or accommodation needs relevant to housing. An intake is not a request for an entire medical history.
You May Not Need Every Document at Intake
The first conversation is about understanding the request. Property-specific, payment, or move-in documents may be requested later if they become relevant.
What Happens Next
The request may move through Received, Reviewing, Need More Information, Screening Scheduled, Availability Review, or Closed. These statuses are workflow stages, not promises of housing.
